The health of the former president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, worsened after intestinal surgery earlier this month, according to his medical team.
The 70 -year -old man remains in intensive care and will undergo new tests.
Bolsonaro was visited at the hospital by a court manager on Wednesday, who made a summons giving him five days to present his initial defense against the coup accusations, in preparation for his trial.
Bolsonaro was ordered to be tried after accused that he led an alleged attempt at right coup After losing the 2022 presidential election from the left president Lula Da Silva.
In a video of the convocation delivered, Bolsonaro could be seen furiously react, saying: “I have five days to present my defense?”
During the alleged coup attempt, Bolsonaro supporters stormed the government’s buildings. Police surveys have described the allegations he had of personal conversations – including with figures from the armed forces – on the idea of a coup to hang on to power.
His previous intestinal surgery responded to the current health problems after being stabbed in 2018 on the campaign campaign in the southeast state of Minas Gerais.
He lost around 40% of his blood and suffered an emergency surgery, the attacker was then mentally declared to be tried.
He has repeatedly denied coup d’etat allegations and accused his opponents of a hunt for political witches.
One day before he was delivered to the hospital, he recorded a live YouTube program from his hospital bed with three of his sons, despite the recommendation of a doctor not to have visitors.
The Brazilian Supreme Court argued that it showed that it could be summoned and informed.
Bolsonaro hoped to contest the presidential elections again in 2026, despite the current ban on the elections, but he risks a sentence of 40 years in prison if she is found guilty.
