Rutenberg spent the 2024 season as a jet seconds coach, the same position he accepted in 2021 when former head coach Robert Saleh built his initial staff. Although Rutenberg is there for four seasons, the last three were the most impressive of the defense.

The jets are the only NFL team which has been placed in the top five of total defense and the defense of passes in each of the last three seasons. In terms of total meter, they were n ° 5 in 2022 with 5,288 authorized yards, n ° 3 in 2023 with 4,969 yoke authorized and n ° 3 in 2024 with 5,334 authorized yards. Before the jets, Rutenberg was specialist in the game game for the 49ers of San Francisco in 2020. He helped their defense to finish fourth in pass defense, fifth in total defense and seventh in race defense.
Rutenberg was with the Jacksonville jaguars in 2013-2019, occupying three different positions. He started as the deputy coach of the defensive backs (2013-15), went to the defensive assistant coach (2016-17), then finished as an assistant coach of the seconds (2018-19).
Rutenberg entered the NFL through the then Redskins, initially as an intern of the Player staff in 2003, then assistant to former head coach Joe Gibbs from 2004 to 2005.
During this 2006-12 gap, Rutenberg worked at the college level, sharing time between the UCLA, the state of the New Mexico and the University of San Diego.
The 2025 season will be the 16th of Rutenberg as a football coach.
