A Harvard The professor known to seek honesty before being accused of in -depth fraud of data was dismissed, the first time that the Ivy League institution rejected a titular instructor in about 80 years.

Francesca Gino was initially put on administrative leave by the Harvard Business School (HBS) in 2023 after several allegations of falsification of data related to his research, which focused on ethical behavior. On Tuesday, a university spokesman confirmed that Gino’s mandate had been dismissed, which ends his job.

The academic mandate generally prevents university professors from being dismissed, except in extreme circumstances. The Harvard Crimson student newspaper said that no school instructor had lost its mandate since the 1940s, when the American Association of University Professors implemented rules governing licensees.

Attempts to contact Gino to comment have failed to succeed, but she has already maintained her innocence. Harvard has not developed, citing a policy against discussion on staff issues.

Gino’s dismissal is not linked to attacks and financing cuts that Donald Trump Increased university since its entry into office in January.

She arrived for the first time in HBS, located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 2010 as a teacher of associate business administration, according to her curriculum vitae, who also declared that she had become a titular professor in 2014 and led the negotiation, organizations and markets unit from 2018 to 2021.

Gino also presented his research during a number of conferences and spoke in various schools, and his work had been covered in the media, including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and NBC News.

In June 2023, the higher education chronicle reported that Harvard had informed another HBS teacher, Max Bazerman, that he thought that one of the studies supervised by Gino – with whom he had published a 2012 article – had falsified results.

The document in question concerned the results published in the acts of the National Academy of Sciences, which then retracted the work. The experience asked the participants to complete the tax and insurance documents and found that those who had been invited to sign veracity declarations at the top of the page were more honest than those who had asked to sign statements at the bottom of the page.

Bazerman said that the University had provided him with a 14 -page document showing “convincing evidence” of data falsification, including the discovery that someone had access to a database to add to the file and modify it. He denied having “everything to do with manufacturing”, according to The Chronicle.

A day later, Datacolada’s blog – managed by three academics in behavioral sciences – published Accusations that detailed what she said was in-depth proof of alleged fraud in four university documents co-written by Gino. They said that none of his co-authors was involved, at best their knowledge, and that they shared their concerns about Gino with the HBS in the fall of 2021.

An internal Harvard survey then revealed that Gino had committed a “research lack”. He stripped his title La Chair and removed it from all teaching and research tasks.

After having submitted a legal action of 25 million dollars against Harvard and Datacolada, a federal judge rejected her allegations according to which she had been defamped but allowed her to argue that Harvard had broken his contract by imposing a discipline which violated his own occupation policies, reported the Crimson.

Gino has always denied fraud and wrote on his website: “Once I had the opportunity to prove it before the Court of Law, with the support of the experts who have been refused to me through the Harvard survey process, you will see why their case is so weak and that these are false allegations.”
