The NBA X account was hacked on Tuesday, while several messages sticking a piece of cryptocurrency were made before being withdrawn.
Tuesday afternoon, a message carried out on the official account of the NBA and its 48 million followers read: “The NBA brings the game to the next level. Presentation of $ NBA Coin! Our official digital assets on Solana, designed to improve fans’ commitment and the future of sports transactions. 41 ‘
The post then presented an “contract address” – a long collection of numbers and random letters – as well as an image of a false press release.
The version has promised that NBA Coin would provide “rapid lightning transactions, unrivaled security and transparent integration in the web3 landscape”.
The post was carried out at least two separate occasions from the NBA account – and separately from the NBA Spain account – before they were ultimately deleted.
The league later confirmed to the Sports head -on that the posts were the result of a hack.
