The Foundation will spend more than $ 200 billion over the next 20 years, he said.
“I decided to return my money to society much faster than I had originally planned,” he wrote. “I will give practically all my wealth through the Gates Foundation in the next 20 years for the cause of safeguarding and improving lives in the world. And on December 31, 2045, the foundation will close its doors permanently. ”
The rapid acceleration follows a change of the Charter of the Gates Foundation which said that the organization would close 20 years after the death of Gates. The Gates Foundation gave more than $ 100 billion in its first 25 years.
The announcement comes as the nations retreats to finance global health. The Trump administration suddenly withdrawn from funding for key initiatives such as the World Health Organization, USAID and PEPFAR in January. The United States was the largest donor in WHO, providing support for programs, especially those who attack HIV, polio and health emergencies. Gates, confusing Microsoft Corp. technology giant, is listed as the richest fifth in the world, according to the billionaire Bloomberg index.
