A former Tottenham defender has been sacked as manager of ninth-tier club Skelmersdale United.

The 45-year-old accepted the job with the North West Counties League Premier Division side in mid-October after a poor start to the season.

Their struggles continued as they won just eight out of 34 matches before suffering relegation.

And Pascal Chimbonda was dismissed after Skelmersdale finished last in the championship.

A statement released by the club read: “On behalf of everyone at Skelmersdale United FC, the club would like to express its gratitude to Pascal for all his efforts during his time at the club.

“Pascal joined the club when they were bottom of the table, with the aim of resurrecting the club’s fortunes.

“And while there were many memories during his six-month tenure, it didn’t quite work out the way either party had planned.”

“As such, the club believes it is time to regroup and seek a new appointment.”

In November, Chimbonda allegedly swore at his players 72 times at half-time in a bid to ignite the passion of his struggling non-league players during a 6-0 defeat.

A month later, he was handed a five-match stadium ban after being sent off. Following the appeal, the Lancashire-based club confirmed their manager’s sanction had been reduced to a three-match touchline ban.

Chimbonda then sensationally signed up to play for Skelmersdale and made four appearances.

Skelmersdale players work part-time and balance their footballing commitments with other jobs. The club has bounced between eighth and ninth in recent seasons.
