The son of a former Brazil star was declared “death of the brain” after being involved in a car accident on his way to training.
Pedro Severino, 19, was on the front passenger seat when the vehicle in which he traveled collided with a truck on a highway in Brazil.
The accident occurred at 5:21 a.m. on Monday March 4, after which Severino was transported to the hospital with a line of the critical head.
He suffered a neurosurgery at 10:50 am, in a procedure that has succeeded, but he remains in critical condition.
A doctor declared it “death of the brain” later in the evening, but a second doctor must agree so that he is legally confirmed.
Severino is the son of the former striker Lucas Severino, who played for the Brazilian teams Botafogo and Athletico Paranaenense.

Lucas played for Brazil with Ronaldinho and Lucio at the 2000 Summer Olympic Games, but never received a complete international ceiling.
Another footballer, Pedro Castro, 18, was on the back of the vehicle and was also transported to the hospital.
Teenagers were on the way to the training center of their club in Atibaia, north of Sao Paulo, when the accident occurred.
Castro was released with minor injuries a few hours after arriving at Americana hospital in Brazil.
The two drivers involved in the accident were alcoholic but did not prove to be under the influence of alcohol.
The footballers returned from Ribeirão Preto, where they had seen family members.
Severino played for the Red Bull Bragantino U20 team and led to its first training session with the club, which participates in the Brazilian A. Serie A.
A declaration from the municipal hospital of Dr Waldemar Tebaldi said: “For brain death to be confirmed, the patient must undergo a clinical examination by two different doctors, with at least an hour between their evaluations, as well as an apnea test and other additional examinations.
“This process could take up to 24 hours after the protocol start at 4.30 p.m. The hospital team provides full support for the family during this difficult period.
A spokesperson for Red Bull Bragantino said: “Since he was informed of the incident, the club has been watching the players closely and provides all the necessary support.”
