Kovac, 52, was born in Berlin, Germany, but during his career as a stylish defensive midfielder he captained Croatia.

When he became a manager, he won the German Cup with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018 before winning the league and cup double as head coach of Bayern Munich a year later. He also coached Monaco from 2020 to 2022.

However, his time at Wolfsburg didn’t work out and he left in March.
