Swedish midfielder Kristofer Olsson has mutually agreed to terminate his contract with FC Midtjylland, just over a year after being diagnosed with an acute brain condition.
Olsson, 29, who graduated from the Arsenal Academy in 2013, rehabilitated after losing conscience at his home on February 20 of last year and was diagnosed with several little blood clots in the brain following an extremely rare inflammation of the blood vessel.
Midtjylland said that the midfielder returned to Norrkoping in Sweden, where he will be close to his family and that he can “continue the ambition to come back to life as a footballer”.
“It is not only a story on sport, but on human strength when life strikes hardly harshly,” said Deputy Director of Football of Midtjylland, Kristian Bach Bak. “He has shown everything to us what courage means in practice.
In a club press release, Olsson said he had a “great gratitude” for the Danish club he joined in 2022 for a second fate.
“The club, people, everyone around me – they were there from the first second,” said Olsson. “FC Midtjylland is not only a football club, it is a place that takes care of people.

Olsson represented Sweden 47 times in addition to spells with Anderlecht in Belgium, Krasnodar in Russia and Aik in Sweden at the level of the
Olsson will train with IFK Norrkoping, the club where he has taken his breakthrough.
“First and foremost, I always dream of being a football player. To be able to train fully and feel that I contribute to a team, “he said.
“Each week, I feel progress, and I am hungry and more motivated than ever. Having the opportunity to do it at home in Norrkoping, near my family and friends, means a lot.
Olsson played 47 times for Sweden.
At the club level, he also played for Anderlecht in Belgium, Krasnodar in Russia, Aik in Sweden and the Gunners’ youth teams.
