- Arsenal missed the signature of PSG star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in 2022
- The Gunners rather signed another prospect but the move did not go as planned
- Listen now: everything is launched! Is Arsenal even close to achieving great things?
The former scout of Arsenal, Tomasz Pasieczny, revealed why Arsenal elected against the continuation of a move for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in 2022.
Kvaratskhelia, now 24, is one of the most remarkable wingers in world football and was part of the PSG team that eliminated Arsenal of the Champions League at the semi-final stadium.
Things could have been very different for the international of Georgia, which was on the radar of Arsenal three years ago.
Kvaratskhelia played for Rubin Kazan at the time and then signed for Dinamo Batumi before securing a high level move to Napoli for around 11 million pounds sterling.
In January of this year, he signed for PSG for initial costs of 70 million pounds sterling and scored four goals and provided six assists in 24 appearances so far for the French club.
The former Arsenal scout for Eastern Europe, Pasieczny, was alerted to the potential of Kvaratskhelia and his teammate Rubin Kazan Zuriko Davitashvili.

Instead of signing Kvaratskhelia, Arsenal brought Marquinhos, who fought
Pasieczny told Weszlo.com: “The youth team of Georgia went to Poland, there was a qualification tournament. My job was to pay attention to other teams, but when you saw them – KHVICHA and Zuriko DAVITASHVILI – We had long discussions with other scouts on whom was the best. Then I watched them both in Russia, so I followed their development for a long time.
However, Pasieczny was not impressed by the way Kvaratskhelia fought in a match against Dynamo Moscow after the crowd reacted negatively to poor dribbles.
“He couldn’t face it. Each next movement was bad, from start to finish. He got lost, the ball bounced over him, you could see that he had lost his confidence.
“He overcome it, but if it had continued, it would have been a problem. Being assigned by a few thousand people in Kazan does not lead to a good note.
“Everyone knew he would be mega good, but they wondered how much. Whether it is the absolute summit or a little lower. Few had doubts that he would be nothing at all. However, at this stage, I had to write how it is, drawing conclusions, writing where the problems are.
Instead of trying to sign Kvaratskhelia, Arsenal rather brought Marquinhos de Sao Paulo.
The Brazilian is still in the books of Arsenal, but has only made six senior appearances for the club and is currently loaned to Cruzeiro for the rest of this calendar year.
During his stay in Arsenal, Marquinhos also had loan spells in Norwich, Nantes and Fluminense.

The first season of Kvaratskhelia in PSG, on the other hand, seems to be a memorable place.
PSG has already been crowned champion of Ligue 1 and is now in pursuit of the triple – they will face Inter Milan in the final of the Champions League and are also in the final of the Coupé de France, where they will face Reims.
