- A spine injury almost left the star of the paralyzed titans
- Keano Kini will undergo surgery this week
The back of the Keano Kini Titans spoke of a scary diagnosis which revealed that it was only millimeters of a spine injury that changes their life.
The 20 -year -old reigning player is expected to undergo neck surgery this week to address a disk hernia that was dangerously close to his spinal cord.
Kini, who expects to be a dad in the coming months, has been said to be very careful and avoids traveling in a car due to the delicate nature of his injury.
The doctors told him that another impact on his neck could have been disastrous.
“ I am very lucky, it could have been much worse ”, he told News Corp.
“The doc said that if I slept another bad blow, I could have been paralyzed, so I feel blessed to have discovered this now before something really serious happens.

The talented young person should undergo neck surgery this week to tackle a disk hernia
“When he said that to me, I was quite afraid.”
Kini suffered the injury by playing against Newcastle last weekend, showing the post-match symptoms.
The scans later showed that the youngster’s spinal cord had been compressed and that it was only 4 mm in catastrophic damage.
“I have a hernia of my disc between my vertebrae, it pushed in my spinal cord, so they will remove this and merge the bones together,” said Kini.
“I look at a minimum recovery of three months.
“I can start training between this, but it will be three to four months before returning to the field and maybe four to six weeks after that until I can be back in the running to be selected again.
“I think it happened to play for the Kiwis against the Tonga last year. In the warm -up, I had a cervical boost after getting a blow and the right side of my body has numbed.
“In the first half of this match, I played the ball and I couldn’t feel my arm. Then, in the Knights game, I had a boost at the back and the same feeling happened.

Kini says he focuses first on his health and does not rush to be back on the park when he impatiently awaits the birth of his first child
“I thought I would have an MRI scan, then he showed the damage in my disc.
The absence of Kini will leave a significant emptiness in the spine of his team, but the young talent focuses first on his well-being.
“They originally said that I would be back in the original period, but I really doubt it. Everything can happen with your neck, so I’m not going to rush anything.
“I focus first on my health rather than returning to Footy this year. Obviously, I would like to be back this year, but if not, I take my time to resume my full potential.
“It’s disappointing because I was building the last two games well and I’m really looking forward to a huge season with the boys.
“That’s life. Sometimes these injuries occur. Everything happens for a reason, so I will reset, train as loudly as possible and come back even better.
