Many people are surprised by ChatGPT abilities. Even the families of OpenAI’s top employees.
In a recent interview at Cannes Lions 2024, a gathering for creative and communications professionals, Mira Murati, CTO of OpenAI She said her mother’s first question to ChatGPT was: “When will Mira get married?”
Murati’s sister, who was guiding their mother through that first meeting, replied, “Well, Mom, it’s not magic. It’s still artificial intelligence,” Murati said.
Murati concluded that ChatGPT was a competent conversationalist. “She had such a natural interaction with the app that she felt like she could ask any question she had,” Murati said.
Murati, 35, graduated from Dartmouth College with a degree in mechanical engineering. After stints at Tesla and Leap Motion, she joined OpenAI as a researcher in 2018 and helped guide teams in building its most critical products, like ChatGPT and the Dall-E 2 image generator. She also briefly served as the company’s interim CEO during Sam Altman’s surprise ouster last year.
For those curious, we also asked ChatGPT when Murati would get married. Here’s what the bot had to say:
“There is no public information about Mira Murati’s personal plans, including whether or not she plans to get married. Like many public figures, she tends to keep her private life out of the spotlight.”
Fair enough.
