We are heading for Old Trafford this weekend at the dawn of the realization of something that no team has done in the history of the Premier League.
After our 2-0 success against the Red Devils at the Emirates Stadium in December, we extended our winning round of the League against United with four games – the longest sequence against them in our high -flying history.
Seeing that we first locked the horns of the former first division in 1906, this shows how incredibly difficult four successive victories are against our ancient enemies – and it is the same for all the other united opponents.
Only three other teams have produced four games in a row against the Red Devils since the Premier League training in 1992. Liverpool obtained its feat at the turn of the century during the legendary mandate of Sir Alex Ferguson, while the neighbors of Manchester City did a decade ago and Brighton & Hove Albion with United.
Therefore, if we leave the northwest with the three points on Sunday evening, we would become the first team in the history of the Premier League to beat Manchester United five times in a row.
Start of race | End of race | Team | Matches |
---|---|---|---|
01/22/2023 | In progress | Arsenal | 4 |
05/07/2022 | 09/16/2023 | Brighton | 4 |
04/08/2013 | 02/11/2014 | Man | 4 |
10/17/2000 | 01/22/2002 | Liverpool | 4 |
Our race started in January 2023 when Eddie Nkeitah presented a late winner to the house to obtain a 3-2 dramatic triumph on the lawn at home, while we left him late in August when Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus marked to ensure a 3-1 victory.
We then recorded our first double of Ligue on United since 2006/07 thanks to the goal of Leandro Trossard in Old Trafford in May 2024, before the strikes of Jurrien Timber and William Saliba condemned Ruben Amorim to his first defeat as boss of Red Devils three months ago.
It is already our best series of victories against the red half of Manchester in our high -level history, after having gathered three times four times before this current section:
Start of race | End of race | Games |
---|---|---|
01/22/2023 | In progress | 4 |
09/11/1997 | 09/20/1998 | 3 |
03/12/1989 | 05/06/1991 | 3 |
03/12/1930 | 02/21/1931 | 3 |
05/04/1922 | 01/16/1926 | 3 |
Sunday also presents a chance to end a 46 -year expectation for a sustained success at the Théâtre des Rêves. Thanks to this trossard strike on this rainy May day last year, we can now win consecutive matches outside Old Trafford for the first time since the 1970s.
In November 1977, Malcolm Macdonald and Frank Stapleton won 2-1 success in Manchester, before our return in February 1979, when Alan Sunderland scored a splint – a few months ahead of his famous winner in the FA Cup final against the same opponents.
The victories following United’s home are something that we have only succeeded twice in our history, with the other occasion to come between 1962 and 1963. Consequently, if the team of Mikel Arteta appeared victorious this weekend, this particular victory over our former enemies should be something to really enjoy.
