An overview of the first candidates for the position of Icelanders GM:
Ken Holland
Almost every source with which the position spoke on Tuesday mentioned Holland to some extent. The 69-year-old man, who was director general of the Red Wings for 22 seasons before directing the 2019-24 Oilers, is currently a consultant for the NHL hockey operations department. If the director partner John Collins, who previously worked with the League, goes to Commissioner Gary Bettman to obtain help, the name of Holland would certainly have appeared.
If there is a Holdup, it is because Holland – a director general of the old school whose most notable successes came before the institution of the salary ceiling – is similar to Lamoriello, that the islanders have just relaxed.
Brandon Pridham
Pridham, 51, has worked for the Maple Leafs since 2014 and has been deputy managing director since 2018. He would have the management capacity to manage a hockey operations service and may well navigate the salary ceiling. His name has been raised for GM positions open in the past, and he is considered a future managing director of the League.
