It is not the first time that a candidate has won an election without opposition, but it is certainly the first time in more than three decades that such a development has been held. During the Lok Sabha elections in 1989, the Mohammad Shafi Bhat of the National Conference won the Srinagar surveys of Jammu-Cachemire even before anyone voted for one.
How did BJP win the seat?
In an unusual turn of events, the Safran party won its first victory for Prime Minister Modi’s original state after all the other candidates withdrew their SURAT appointments.
Initially, the Congress had aligned Nilesh Kumbhani from the Surat seat. However, his candidacy was rejected by the electoral commission after his proponents said they had not signed his papers.
The back of the congress came yesterday when the district electoral agent (DEO) Surabh Pardhi rejected the appointment documents of Kumbhani claiming that three of his proposals did not arise to defend his candidacy.
Meanwhile, the Congress and the AAP declared that they would fight the elections in Gujarat together as part of the India alliance. By virtue of their agreement, the great old party will dispute 24 of the 26 seats while the AAP will fight in the other two.
Who is Mukesh Dalal?
A new face in the list of candidates of the BJP, Mukesh Dalal is the secretary general of the city of the city of BJP and previously worked in the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha at the level of the state.
Mukesh Dalal would be a close ally of the president of BJP Gujarat, CR Paatil. The head of the BJP has held the post of president of the Surat Peoples Cooperative Bank Ltd and has been a member of the party since 1981.
