The final of the League of Nations was spoiled by the death of spectators after the fall

UEFA confirmed the death of a spectator in the final victory of the League of Nations of Portugal against Spain in Munich on Sunday.

A supporter fell from the second level of the main stand on the lounge area below in the last minutes of the match in Allianz Arena.

The game continued while the spectator was treated by paramedical paramedics and stadium delegates, but the person could not be relaunched by medical treatment, UEFA said in a statement.

“There was a medical emergency at the Munich arena, and despite the best efforts of the medical team, the person unfortunately died at 00:06 (CET),” the statement said. “Our thoughts are with their loved ones in this difficult period.”

The Spanish coach Luis de la Fuente opened his post-battle press conference by offering his sympathies.

“I want to express my condolences to the family of a deceased fan,” said Fuente. “It made us realize what is important in life.”

The man of the Portugal match, Nuno Mendes, added: “I would like to express my condolences to the family of the fan who died. This throws a veil on our victory today.”
