Warning: Major Spoilers to come for the final of season three “Yellowjackets”.
Shauna left the rails in a major way in season three of “Yellowjackets”, but at least one person is still rooted for her: Sophie Nélisse, who plays the teenager Shauna.
The third release of the successful Survival Thriller Showtime, which broadcast its final on Friday, follows a team of secondary school girls who is blocked in the desert after the plane crash. The show simultaneously follows the adult self of the survivors 25 years later when their traumatic experiences return to haunt them.
Although each of the survivors has a lot of trauma (because, well, cannibalism), none was completely through the spinner that Shauna, who was responsible for the death of his best friend Jackie in season one and then lost his baby in a death managing in nature. These events led Shauna to take a dark and violent path in season three.
The episode, rightly called “Full Circle”, brings us back to the place where it all started: the pilot scene where the girls, in makeshift masks, hunt one of their own, which falls into a pit. Fans have been wondering for three seasons that “Pit Girl” and the group’s leader, the “Wood Queen”, could be. “Full Circle” gives viewers these two great revelations, establishing that husband was the girl who was driven out and fell into a pit, and Shauna was the wood queen who was pursuing her.
While the casting “Yellowjackets” had a broken heart to lose husband (Alexa Barajas), they were also delighted to finally get answers. The Queen of Antler was not exactly shocking for Nélisse, who said she saw the writing on the wall of a few episodes while the young Shauna had started to snatch Natalie (Sophie Thatcher), but she was always happy to see her finally playing.
She also wondered if Shauna’s new leadership role reprimanded the fury and the grief that she was conducted all season. “Is it enough to appease your need for revenge and power?” Nélisse said to Bi.
Since the others actively plotted against Shauna after she prohibited them from leaving the desert when a pair of scientists and a guide stumbled in their bloody Bacchanal, preventing the mutiny group will also be a challenge.
“I am curious to see how long she can hold this power,” added Nélisse.
Nélisse thinks that Shauna is bisexual, but she is not sure that Shauna and Jackie were more than friends

One of the apparent more subtle revelations in the final occurs when a drunk twist confronts Shauna before the girls leave to track down husband. He tells her that “none of this is real”. He suggests that he experiences the thoughts of those who died there, including his younger brother Javi and the best friend of Shauna, Jackie.
Travis tells Shauna that Jackie’s thoughts are her favorites: “Sleeping party makeup? Jealousy? Betrayal?”
Whether it is a hallucination induced by drugs or not, it certainly seems to suggest that something sexual has happened between Shauna and Jackie, more complicated a relationship that was already complicated by Shauna’s affair with Jackie’s boyfriend, Jeff, who finally married Shauna and a daughter, Callie, with her. This, twinned with the scenario of season three which sees Shauna embarking on a toxic relationship with her surviving colleague Melissa, is a fairly solid proof that Shauna and Jackie probably connected at some point before the accident.
When I brought her back to Nélisse, she seemed surprised by this reading of the moment. She said that she hadn’t taken it in this way but loved theory. Although she tries to avoid watching the Tiktoks of the series, she is well aware that many viewers think that there was something more than the friendship between Shauna and Jackie, at least on the side of Shauna.
“There is no answer, in fact, for that one. Many people have suggested that there was sexuality between Jackie and Shauna,” said Nélisse. “But the creators seemed, of our discussion, to say that there was not, but that there is just this really complex relationship. It is such a beautiful line on which to walk.”
“I think it’s in people’s interpretation,” she added.
Nelisse has no idea what will happen to Shauna in season 4 of “Yellowjackets”, but she has hopes
According to Nélisse, the cast only obtains the scripts of an episode about a week before the shooting. This means that they are not aware of the long game that the show plays before individual revelations, and they do not have the answers to the mysteries in progress like what is happening with Taissa and if there is really something supernatural in the desert.
“Each season has almost looked like a different character for me,” said Nélisse about playing Shauna. “I think what is fun is that I can play the villain a little (in season three), but at the same time, with all its history and all its trauma and all its luggage that it has worn.”
Nélisse says that Shauna’s luggage helped her to contextualize some of the least popular decisions of his character.
“Although everything she does may not be excusable, you understand the why behind. So I have a lot of empathy for her,” she added. “It was really fun to be able to draw from something much darker. But at the same time, always take care of herself and promote it for her, in a way.”
So, can Shauna become darker in an unconfirmed four season? Nélisse is not sure, but she hopes in a way.
“A part of me wants her to go even more crazy, but I am like, she needs to calm down.”
