Horner revealed new images of Netflix Formula 1: Drive to survive That he believed that controversy was an effort calculated to force him to leave the team.
The last season of the popular Docu-Drame, which is expected to be released on Friday, takes the fans behind the scenes of the Formula 1 2024 season. One of the scenarios focuses on the Battle of Horner to maintain his position as Red Bull boss after being accused of inappropriate behavior by a colleague, allegations he has constantly denied and was finally authorized to follow an independent investigation.
In a teaser for the new season, Horner is seen addressing the scandal and the immense pressure he gave him.
“The more you are, the sharper the knives.” I had reached the top of my game and I had never thought that in a million years, I would have a challenge like this in my career. It is a crucial period of the year, and in the work I do, you are the front of the organization. You can either hide or go out and face it, ”said Horner.
The controversy broke out only 10 days before Red Bull was to launch their 2024 F1 challenger. While the news of the investigation spread, she dominated the headlines and threatened to derail the attention of the team when they aimed to ensure their fourth consecutive pilot championship.
Horner’s wife, Geri Halliwell, is also presented in the documentary, supporting her husband. In a scene, she tells Horner, “The truth is that you never know what life will bring.”
The series captures the immediate consequences of an anonymous email leak which sent shock waves. The email, which surfaced during the first training session of the Bahrain Grand Prix in 2024, contained alleged messages between Horner and the complainant.
“At the end of the second training, suddenly, my phone begins to receive messages and that, and the other. There is a bomb that fell with a lot of alleged messages. It was obviously premeditated to cause me the maximum quantity of distraction, the maximum quantity of aggravation. It was obvious that the final goal was for me to leave Red Bull, “said Horner.
Red Bull’s internal survey finally rejected complaints against Horner. An appeal from the complainant was also rejected in August 2024. The Austrian parent company of Red Bull Racing published a declaration:
“Red Bull can confirm that the grievance has been rejected. Red Bull is convinced that the investigation was fair, rigorous and impartial. The investigation report is confidential and contains private information on the parties and third parties who have helped the investigation. Therefore, we will not comment on more respect for all those concerned. Red Bull will continue to endeavor to respect the highest standards in the workplace. »»
Horner, who has led Red Bull since his debut in F1 in 2005, supervised eight pilot championships and six manufacturers’ titles, including the dominant race for Max Verstappen in 2023.
