How to win an election? You take on an issue and scare people so much that they run away from the opposition.
Whether or not there is truth to the allegations is another question entirely, as elections are usually won based on perceptions and emotions and rarely based on data or facts.
In this context, let us examine some of the fear-mongering campaigns used by various political parties, what we call the “coup de grace”.
BJP: If the Congress comes to power, it will take away wealth from Hindus and redistribute it among Muslims.
Congress: If the BJP comes to power, it will remove reservations.
TDP: If YSRCP returns to power, it will usurp all your land as per the Land Title Act.
YSRCP: If the TDP comes to power, it will end “direct benefit transfer” schemes.
BRS: If BRS does not win, we will lose Hyderabad as BJP will make it a Union Territory.
DMK: Voting for the BJP is voting for Brahmanism! Hindi and North Indian culture will be imposed on us.
