Georgescu came out of nowhere to win the first round of the presidential vote last November, partly on the back of a successful Tiktok campaign.
But the Constitutional Court canceled its victory after an alleged Russian operation was considered to influence the result.
The Trump administration, itself aligning with the Kremlin on the main objectives of foreign policy, argued the idea of allowing Georgescu to compete.
Trump’s main advisor Elon Musk immediately reacted to Sunday news from Romania with a tweet saying: “It’s crazy.”

Georgescu also tried to play what he claimed to be international implications for office decisions: “If democracy in Romania falls, the whole democratic world will fall!” He wrote on Facebook. “This is only the beginning. It’s so simple! Europe is now a dictatorship, Romania is under tyranny! »»
