As a family of five, we have certainly felt the pinch in recent years. It looks like so much are become more expensiveIncluding the cost of grocery store, daycare, public service bills, insurance premiums, etc.
In order to reach both ends, we had to make some Adjustments of our expenditure habits. Our lifestyle has definitely changed, but I wouldn’t say that it is necessarily a bad thing. In fact, the reintegration of our expenses noted that when we make follies on pleasant people, we appreciate them more.
Here are the adjustments we made that worked for us.
I meal plan and buy generic grocery stores
I try to meal plan As much as possible to use all the ingredients we buy. For example, if I buy sure for a Mexican dish, I also use the rest in a dessert, rather than leaving it badly.
I don’t let anything at home. If the vegetables start to wither or become soft, I throw them in a soup or a stew. If the meat is about to become bad, I freeze it and use it later in the month.
I have always been an economical buyer, but I am even more aware of the budget these days. I Buy generic brands And check what is the cheapest according to the unit price of the grocery store. Sometimes I will buy in bulk if it means saving money per unit and that is something that we will possibly use.
We also eat what is in season or special. If the Blueberries cost the basket $ 8 and the apples cost the pound $ 2, there are apples.
We rarely eat in restaurants
When we only had one child, my husband and I like to eat outside. We have eaten once or twice a week, but now that we are a family of five, it’s just too expensive.
We are probably only Eat in a restaurant Once every few months now. Often, we will make an appointment evening and leave the children at home, so that my husband and I can enjoy the outing in peace (and it is also cheaper in this way).
Curiously, I do not fail to go out in restaurants at all. Not only do we save money, but we also eat healthier and homemade dishes. When we eat outside, it also looks like a real treat.
We have reduced the subscriptions and spend our free time outside or with friends
Three years ago, we moved to Bright in the Victoria region of Australia. Living in the country, we had to improve to have fun and discover that free entertainment is actually joy.
Nowadays, most of our weekends are filled with picnics and natural walks, bike rides and Dinners in friendsor friends who come to ours. We also invest in quality “toys” that will last the distance and offer entertainment in the coming years. For example, we all have mountain bikes that we drive most of the weeks.
One of my favorite hobbies is reading, and to save money, I started using the library rather than buying books. Libraries are an excellent resource, even in a small town like ours.
We also have Reduce subscriptions We don’t need streaming services.

I exchange clothes with friends or I buy second -hand
I loved buying beautiful clothes, but my priorities moved. When I buy something, I like Buy used. It is a great way to find quality clothes (sometimes even creative brands) for a fraction of the usual cost.
My friends and I lend clothes for special occasions to save money, and I also organized an exchange party with a pile of my friends recently. Everyone brought clothes, jewelry, perfumes and books they didn’t want, and returned home with a bag of goodies at the end of the night. It was a great way to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Budgeting was the key, and each small piece
Overall, the adjustment of our expenditure habits helped us to remain afloat during what was a financially defective time For many families. Having a clear understanding of the place where our money is crucial and allowed us to identify the areas to save. It is easy to forget that each small piece adds up, but it really is!
