BRUSSELS – The European Union plans to suspend its price countermeasures for 90 days on 21 billion euros in American exports in response to the prices of steel and aluminum by President Donald Trump, four EU diplomats in Politico told Politico.
The idea was discussed by European ambassadors at an emergency meeting on Thursday morning, called Trump’s heels on Wednesday on his “reciprocal” prices.
The chairman of the Ursula von der Leyen commission announced it in a position via X.
In an astonishing decision, Trump half reduced the 20% rate that he announced on the EU on the “Liberation Day” just over a week ago, putting it online with a universal price of 10% that he established. At the same time, it increased the tariffs on China to 125% in a growing trade battle in the Tit-For-Tat sector between the two largest economies in the world.
The idea would be to apply the prices from April 15, as planned initially, and to suspend the collection of functions in order to create space for negotiations with the White House, said that diplomats, who obtained anonymity to discuss talks with sensitive closed doors.
