A volcano in the center of the Philippines broke out early Tuesday morning, sending an ash plume at around 2.5 miles in the sky and forcing the authorities to suspend school in four villages due to Ashfall.
The area of the island of Negros around the Kanlaon volcano, one of the 24 active volcanoes In the Nation of Southeast Asia, he was still under the evacuation of a eruption in December.
There was no report of injuries or damage caused by Tuesday eruption which dispersed the ashes in at least four agricultural villages, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
The agency said in a statement that “the explosive eruption” had started at 5:51 a.m. local time.
The volcano produced “a bulky folded plume of approximately 4,000 meters high which derives to the southwest,” he said.
The eruption stopped at 6:47 a.m. (6:47 p.m. MAD on Monday), the institute reported later.
Videos published on social networks have shown a large plume of smoke which extends slowly into the sky.
“We were prepared for the eruption. Families in the 4 to 6 kilometers (approximately 2.5 miles at around 3.7 miles) were already evacuated during the previous eruption last December,” said John de Asis, a rescue manager of the French news agency of the Western Negros province.
Channel Nicor, 22, said she was waiting for a bus to take her to school when the eruption hit.
“The sound seemed that a big rock had fallen from a high place, then I looked up and I saw the (ash cloud) becoming more and more of the volcano,” she told AFP.
“When I saw the ashes of course, I felt nervous, but not as nervous as the previous eruption, because this time, we know what to do,” she said.
The level three alert – on a five -scale scale – set up during the December eruption, remained unchanged.
Ben Edwards, professor of geosciences at Dickinson College in Pennsylvania, said on Monday on “CBS Eventing News Plus” that eruptions around the world are Almost daily events.
“The earth is made of tectonic plates, and on the edges of the plates are mainly all the activity, this is where there are earthquakes, this is where there are volcanoes and other things, and therefore in a general sense, all this activity is linked to the fact that we live on an active planet where literally the surface of the planet under your feet is moving essentially every day, but very, very, very, very, very, very, very, Edwards.
In September, hundreds of nearby residents were evacuated after Kanlaon hunted thousands of harmful gas in one day.
In 1996, three hikers were killed near the summit and several others were then rescued when Kanlaon broke out without warning, officials said.
Where is the Kanlaon volcano in the Philippines?
The volcano is located in the central part of the Philippines, which is in the “Ring of Fire” of the Pacific, a region subject to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. The archipelago is also tired of around 20 typhoons and storms per year, making it one of the most subject to disasters in the world.
