The dodgers fall to the phillies for the first loss of the 2025 season

Philadelphia – In front of their first trip on the domestic road of the season, it has been 157 days since the Dodgers had to endure a defeat that really meant something. It was match 4 of the World Series, when they fell 11-4 in the Yankees before winning the eighth title in the history of the franchise the following night.

The good moments continued in the new season while the Dodgers made a tear to open their title defense, assembling an 8-0 departure which ranked the best by a champion in title of the World Series-and the third best in the history of the franchise, behind the clubs of 1955 (10-0) and ’40 (9-0). But the team was finally lost, and this moment came on Friday evening, when Los Angeles fell 3-2 in Philadelphia in Citizens Bank Park.

“Unspected territory,” said manager Dave Roberts about the loss, with an ironic and ephemeral smile. “No. Just this funky at the first race (when Trea Turner scored on an error to throw). … When you give a good team and shorten the game, so it’s hard to win. It is difficult to beat a good team. This is what happened tonight.”

The opening race of the Dodgers season was remarkable not only because of its history, but because of the way they accomplished it. They faced two teams that made the playoffs last year, the Tigers and the Braves. Not only did that, they conquered the two riding laureates of Cy Young, the matches won by Tarik Skubal and Chris Sale.

No matter how talented a team is, going 162-0 is obviously an unrealizable feat. The Dodgers know this, and yet they felt that each time they took the field this season, they were in good position to win.

This confidence can be attributed, in part, to another surprising fact on the opening race of the season: six of these eight opening victories of the season were of the return variety, another unprecedented feat in the history of the major league. But the dodgers could not release a seventh due to a multitude of factors.

There was the only racing of the phillies marked off Yoshinobu Yamamoto, which granted a double of first round to Turner, then made a wandering launch when Turner stole the third base, allowing it to mark the opening race. He fell as an unprecedented race in the box score, but was made possible by the wandering launch of Yamamoto.

“It was very regrettable,” said Yamamoto through the interpreter Yoshihiro Sonoda. “It was a very fundamental piece.”

There was also a screaming wind which kept a crier of a flyout of Shohei Ohtani – the one who left the bat with an output speed of 110 MPH and a launch angle at 32 degrees – within the stadium limits.

There has been a locking effort by the pitching staff of the Phillies – but the dodgers also made their work facilitated by engaging in three withdrawals on the basic basins, one of which ended the ball game.

Phillies Southpaw Jesús Luzardo sculpted in the programming of dodgers during his first six heats, withdrawing 13 consecutive between the two Baserunners he authorized. Andy Pages broke this section with a walk in one time in the sixth, but he was chosen and surprised the second goal to end the Channel.

The Dodgers had another opportunity in the eighth, with runners in the corners and two withdrawals for Betts, which was in place as the potential link. But Ohtani was thrown by trying to steal the second goal, ending the rally.

Perhaps rightly, the match ended with a third to be released on the basic basins, when the pinch runner Chris Taylor was thrown by trying to fly second, only three strikers after the Tommy Edman circuit of Tommy Edman brought the Dodgers to a race.

“I thought the last round, ‘CT’ had a good jump, and it was about the perfect ground to put on,” said Edman. “So (Realmuto) just made an excellent throw, and I think that doing the race for attribution to the second goal was going to be huge there.

“We tried to put the pressure. He made a big game.”

Even if we consider that the loss of opening of the series was only the first of the dodgers in a long season, it was a pill that is difficult to swallow because of the way it took place.

“Any loss is difficult and I hate losing – we hate losing,” said Roberts. “But I think it goes to the way we play. … We started early, but that’s something in which we have to improve.”
