The director, Sam Mendes, works on four biopics on the Beatles.
Mendes, who is known for his Oscar -winning films, including “American Beauty”, “Skyfall” and “1917”, joined Sony to work on the ambitious slate of films on the emblematic British group.
In a press release announcing the news, the CEO of Sony Pictures, Tim Rothman, said: “The daring and large -scale idea of Sam is that and then some.”

Monday, Mendes appeared in Cinemacon in Las Vegas to officially announce the casting of the Beatles Movies oven. He confirmed that Paul Mescal will play Paul McCartney and Harris Dickinson will play John Lennon.
The star of “Saltburn” Barry Keoghan, the star of “Saltburn”, as Ringo Starr, and the actor of “Fantastic Four” Joseph Quinn as George Harrison.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Mendes told the public: “We are not only making a film on the Beatles – we make four. Maybe it’s a chance to understand them a little deeper.”

Each film will be from the point of view of a member different from the group, which means that Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr will each have their own biopic.
This is the first time that the group’s company, Apple Corps Ltd., has authorized the history and music of the group to use in a film scripted about them.
Since 1979, 18 unauthorized Biopics were made about the group, including “Knowhere Boy” in 2009 with Aaron Taylor-Johnson like Lennon and Thomas Brodie-Sangster like McCartney.
The release also indicates that the four films “will meet to tell the amazing story of the biggest group in history”.

In an interview with Deadline in February 2024, Pippa Harris, who will produce the films, said that the group’s surviving members, McCartney and Starr, gave their blessing for Mendes to work on the four films.
“It is a testimony to his creative brilliance and his persuasive powers that Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Sean Lennon and Olivia Harrison responded with such warmth and enthusiasm as soon as he spoke to them,” she said, referring to the son of John Lennon and the widow of George Harrison.
Harris continued by saying that Mendes will have no restrictions on what he depicts the life of the group members.
She said: “What is really exciting is that Sam has the freedom to immerse himself in the life of each of the Beatles, without anything from the limits and no sense of the group wanting to say a particular” authorized “version of their ascent to success.”
Starr also gave his blessing via a post on X.

In December, Ridley Scott let slide that Paul Mescal joined the casting of the Beatles films during a conversation with Christopher Nolan after a projection of “Gladiator II”.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Nolan asked the director if Mescal would appear in his next project, “The Dog Stars”, but Scott said that the Irish actor had a busy schedule.
He said, “Perhaps. Paul is actually stacked, doing the Beatles afterwards. So I might be allowed to let him go.”
Rumors about Mescal’s involvement circulated for a while. In November, he told Entertainment this evening that he would love to join the project.
“It would be an incredible story to attach. The fact that Sam Mendes was attached to directly, as really, it would be a dream come true,” he said.
However, he refused to comment on the speculations that he plays McCartney, adding: “No, no, no – we don’t go.”
