The interview in Tucker Carlson prison with Sam Bankman Fried surprised everyone – including the Crispto crook crisis director.
Mark Botnick, who had represented Bankman Frit since the collapse of his FTX cryptocurrency exchange in November 2022, resigned from his role on Thursday after learning the interview.
He told Business Insider that he had no involvement in planning the interview with Carlson, who was published in social media Thursday afternoon – Bankman Fried’s 33rd anniversary.
“To date, I no longer represent SBF,” Botnick told BI.
Bankman Fried is serving a 25-year prison sentence after a jury found him guilty in 2023 of a fraud and money laundering dollars dollar regime through his cryptocurrency exchange, FTX.
Botnick is a experienced public relations agent, having worked on several political campaigns for the former mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg. He represented the bank through the turbulent waves of his criminal affair, including when he violated the terms of his deposit and was imprisoned before his trial because of falsification.
In recent weeks, Bankman Fried has passed out of scenario. He has published messages on X offering advice on Trump administration efforts to dismiss federal employees. Botnick told Bi that he was not involved in these x messages and is not sure to have displayed them on his behalf.
Bankman Fried’s conversations with journalists have already been in trouble. His interviews with Financial Times, Bloomberg News and Vox were mentioned in his criminal trial as proof of how he misled investors and FTX customers.
Botnick referred additional questions about buttocks to her criminal appeal lawyer, Alexandra Shapiro, who did not immediately respond to requests for comments.
A representative of the metropolitan detention center in Brooklyn, where Bankman Freed is imprisoned, refused to comment on his interview with Carlson. A representative of the Carlson media company did not respond to a request for comments.
The former crypto magnate – which once had a net value in paper of more than $ 26 billion – fished a forgiveness from President Donald Trump, Bloomberg News reported.
Trump and Freed Bankman can have enemies perceived in common, although Freed Bankman has not raised the problem with Carlson, an ally of Trump.
The federal judge who supervised the trial of Bankman Fried and condemned him, Lewis Kaplan, also supervised two cases that the writer E. Jean Carroll successfully brought against Trump. Danielle Sassoon, the principal prosecutor in the Bankman Fried criminal case, resigned from her position as acting chief from the American prosecutor’s office in the South New York district after refusing a request for a civil servant of the Ministry of Justice committed by Trump against the mayor of New York, Eric Adams.
Carlson raised the question of potential forgiveness in the interview.
“If you are not pardoned, how old will you be when you go out?” he asked Bankman Frit.
Bankman Fried said he will be at the end of the forties.
During the collapse of the FTX, in 2022, Bankman Fried had envisaged an interview with Carlson, a host of Fox News at the time, to “go out as a republican” and rail “against the Woke Agenda” as a means of restoring his reputation, he wrote in a Google document which became public in the context of his criminal case.
“Note: these are all random ideas probably bad who are not verified,” wrote Bankman Fried at the top of the document.
