Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis got along beautifully on the set of Black swan – Despite the best efforts by director Darren Aronofsky.
THE Requiem for a dream The filmmaker discussed trying to sow the seeds of dissatisfaction between the two actresses of his 2010 ballet horror drama in an interview with Vogue Celebrate the 15th anniversary of the film.
“I was trying to be a devious director and to make them discuss,” recalls Aronofsky. “Mila and Natalie both made what I did very quickly and I made fun of myself, so it quickly became a joke that we all understood. They are both very intelligent and were instantly aware of any thing I played.”

In the same interview, Portman and Kunis both thought about Aronofsky’s unusual strategy to make tensions on the screen. “I remember being separated from Mila and we were not much in the same space when we did not turn,” recalls Portman. “Darren made a comment very early, like,” you know, Nat, Mila dances so well. “And I said to myself:” Of course, it is!
Kunis said that she had immediately seen that Aronofsky’s lies did not adapt. “Darren said to me: ‘Nat really works, really hard. She doesn’t even take Saturdays and Sundays,” Forget Sarah Marshall The actress remembers. “So I teach Nat and she would say to herself: ‘… No, I’m not?’ I think that’s how we understood what Darren was doing, but everything was very fun. ”
It is not surprising that Portman and Kunis be friends on the set, as the Star Wars The actress was the one who recommended Kunis for the film first.
“We have been friends for years and I remember having been at Rose Bowl Flea Market with her, speaking of this ballet film that I was making with Darren,” recalls Portman. “Mila said:” I remember when I would withdraw my point shoes … “And I said to myself:” Wait, did you do ballet?! “I immediately called Darren and said there was this incredible actress with a ballet experience that would be perfect for Lily.”

And despite the cunning of Aronofsky, Kunis had only praise for the filmmaker. “Each journalist wanted to know how frightening Darren was:” How intense his whole was? How intense was it? “”, She recalls. “I would say: ‘It’s actually a really nice and adorable guy who took us to see Dusk Once because we had the day off. And journalists were always so disappointed that he was not a tortured soul that treated us like garbage. “”
Portman, who won an Oscar for the film, accepted. “”Black swan It was deeply difficult, but it was a wonderful experience, “she said.” Our set was not silly, but everyone was nice and respected themselves. “”
