The anger at the Trump administration crossed the Bay region while hundreds met for “not my president’s day” to protest against anti-democratic actions presumed by the Trump administration and the Ministry of Efficiency of the government of Elon Musk.
Monday demonstrations – with large groups in San Jose, Oakland and San Francisco – were part of a series of demonstrations intended to upset President Donald Trump, the presidential advisor and the CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk and other members of the administration which challenged democratic standards, reduced protections for the LGBT community and has ended initiatives on actions and diversity across the United States.
“Even in defeat, we hold together,” said the first winner poet of Berkeley, Rafael Jesus Gonzalez, at the Oakland pergola next to Lake Merritt to a crowd surrounding him. “We cannot let fascism reign in America. We have to come together.
Democrats and progressives across the United States had largely stagnated since President Trump’s return on January 20 and changes in public agencies, protections of trans persons and the application of immigration. The few demonstrations were little present and often lacked energy from those of Trump’s first mandate.
This changed last weekend in the Bay region where residents gathered outside the Tesla exhibition halls to denounce musk and injure the richest man in the world where he has: his wallet . Walking protest panels called for “sending a musk to Mars” while other panels linked it to Nazism after giving a Nazi salute during the inauguration of President Trump.
In San Jose, hundreds of demonstrators converged at the Circle of Palms Downtown, where they hoisted signs saying “Remove Muskovites”, “Elon is a terrible president” and “Wake Up America”. The speakers included the Ash Kalra assembly and the former County Supervisor of Santa Clara, Rod Diridon Sr.
After the crowd has reached around 1,500 demonstrators, they walked in the block in Plaza park of Cesar Chavez, chanting “hey, hey, ho, h, Elon Musk must go.”
Jessie Heminway, a protester in Oakland with a family member of the federal government, said that Musk Cups in the Agencies are not authorized and unconstitutional.
“It’s a Nuthouse there. They dismiss qualified people. This is a remuneration, ”said Heminway. “Let Elon run freely in the government without even confirming it is entirely inappropriate.”
She said that she had questioned the objective of the protest as a political action after the women’s march and the Black Lives Matter rallys which occurred during the first term of Trump had little effect on public policy. She found an answer during the walk along Lake Merritt, saying however: “People need to meet and have a community.”
The members of the events varied from the long -standing organizers of the 1960s to newly activated participants like Iris Baker, 14 years old.
Baker, non -binary, joined the demonstrations because the federal government had suspended requests for people seeking to add “X” as a gender label on passports. “In the eyes of the law, he says that people like me are not valid.”
Baker hoped for increased demonstrations. “This protest is more a general cause, to raise awareness, it is more on class conscience. I don’t see many demonstrations in the news, and there should be. »»
