The curriculum vitae A software engineer used to win a Microsoft role

  • Ankit Masrani shared the curriculum vitae which won it a safety infrastructure for the construction of Microsoft roles.
  • Before Microsoft, Masrani studied it, obtained a master’s degree in computer science and worked at AWS.
  • He said that data experience and security knowledge is necessary to switch to cybersecurity.

Bringing into the field of cybersecurity can be a challenge for some – but Ankit Masrani, 36, has stumbled.

Microsoft employee, based in Seattle, told Business Insider that even if he intended to become a software engineer, he did not expect to work in the security space. Now, he develops sovereignty checks for the technology giant security platform, ensuring that information sensitive to customers remain within geographic limits.

After studying information technologies in college and worked in software construction roles, Masrani came to the United States to obtain a master’s degree in computer science. After completing a six -month cooperative internship in AWS when he was at school, he converted to an employee full -time, where he focused on securing data and networks until he felt the need for a change.

“To be honest, it was very tiring,” said Masrani about her six and a half years in AWS. “And I wanted a change in my work to try something different.”

Masrani said that his final project before joining Microsoft involved creating a key encryption function managed by the customer, which required research on best practices for data security. He said that he had found the work “really interesting” and started exploring the data -oriented teams. He said that working alongside engineers who were really “passionate” by their work was an absolute priority for him.

Here is the curriculum vitae he used to get his job at Microsoft, where he started Microsoft’s security team as a senior software engineer. Now he is a main software engineer working on Microsoft’s security platform.

Masrani said he applied by going to the company’s website and had no references. He said that if he should apply again today, he might not include such a long educational section because people would probably focus on his 10 years of experience. However, when he was a year or two from school, he said he thought it helped him get interviews.

Security specializing

Masrani has embarked on the role with training in IT, IT and data experience – which are all recommended for entering the field, according to industry veterans.

The pivot of Masrani was not drastic, but he said that certain skills sets were necessary to go from general software engineering alongside security.

As a software engineer creating cybersecurity services, Masrani said that he manages large volumes of security newspapers, user activity data and threat intelligence data. Masrani said that he “did not actively do security threat hunting” but that the construction of services for a platform that does it.

Masrani said that the experience of Big Data technologies like Hadoop, an open source framework that deals with large amounts of data for applications, is important to learn how to create data pipelines. He added that automatic learning and anomalies detection are also useful for working on safety products services.

Masrani also recommends experience of cloud services like AWS or Microsoft Azure to understand the processing of evolutionary data.

“Storage is very important because the cloud services are used everywhere from small to large software systems,” said Masrani.

Masrani also said that security knowledge is necessary to rotate the cybersecurity sector. Masrani said that security protocols and data processing directives are often specific to regions.

He said that knowledge of the domain concerning data governance and other security products is important, as well as familiarity with regulations, such as the General Data Protection Regulations. He said it was also important to know the fundamentals regarding data encryption, network security and applications.

“Any customer data management must be carried out safely and securely,” said Masrani. “It is very important to know the best practices to manage data.
