LOS Angeles (AP) – The Sheriff’s Department of the County of Los Angeles said Thursday that it had opened a criminal investigation into allegations of rape and sexual assault against Smokey Robinson.
The ministry said in a statement that its special victims’ office “is actively investigating criminal allegations” against Robinson. The press release indicates that the probe is at its beginnings and that no other detail would be provided.
Last week, four former Robinson housekeepers filed a legal action alleging that Motown’s musical luminaire had attacked them and sexually raped on several occasions while they worked for him in his catworth residence.
The prosecution filed at the Los Angeles Superior Court requires at least $ 50 million in damages on alleged assaults, which, according to women, took place between 2007 and 2024.
Robinson’s lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comments on the criminal investigation, but previously called the allegations “vile” and “false” and declared that the trial of women was “simply a ugly method to try to extract money from an 85 -year -old American icon”.
John Harris and Herbert Hayden, women’s lawyers, say they are happy to learn that the police examine allegations.
“Our customers intend to cooperate fully with LASD’s current investigation in the search for justice research for themselves and other people who may have been attacked in the same way by him,” said lawyers.
