A former West Covina resident admitted to having sold at least $ 250,000 of false memories of sports and entertainment, including photos and forged signatures of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” stars.
Anthony Tremayne, 58, pleaded guilty to a wire fraud leader as part of a nearly decade program, which occurred between 2010 and 2019, announced federal prosecutors in the California central district this week.
Tremayne, who now lives in Rosarito, Mexico, has sold forged signatures, mainly from Los Angeles athletes, according to federal prosecutors. He hired others to make counterfeits and would send his images of celebrity signatures to use them as copies, prosecutors said.
But he also sold music and political autographs and even sold a false photograph “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” which had forged signatures of several stars of the series.
He sold the photo to an infiltrated agent of the FBI and was arrested in 2019, the prosecutors said.
In addition to the forged autographs, Tremayne often included certificates of authenticity with its memories – but they were also forged, prosecutors said.
The prosecutors said that Tremayne had sold at least $ 250,000 and up to $ 550,000 in false memories to customers.
He risks up to 20 years in federal prison when sentenced on August 11.
