The head of the special division Crime and Counter Terrorism Service of Crown Prosecution Service, Frank Ferguson, said: “Following an examination of the evidence provided by the Metropolitan Police Service, we authorized two chiefs of sexual assault against Patrick Spencer MP.”
He added: “The crown prosecution service reminds all concerns that criminal procedures against this defendant are now active and that he has the right to a fair trial.
“It is extremely important that there is no report, comments or online information sharing which could in any way prejudice these procedures.”
The Groucho Club, a longtime hotspot for London celebrities, was temporarily closed in November after its operating license was suspended at the request of the metropolitan police. It was reopened in January.
A conservative spokesman said: “The conservative party believes in integrity and high standards. We have taken immediate measures. Patrick Spencer MP was suspended from the conservative party, and the whip removed, with immediate effect. ”
