Cristóbal Tapia de Veer, the acclaimed composer of “The White Lotus” by HBO, said that he will not be back for season 4.
In an interview with the New York Times, the triple winner of Emmy said that he and the creator Mike White had different visions for the theme song of the show, which started in season 1 and intensified during the production of the third season currently broadcast. For the first two seasons of the show, the strange theme song of Tapia de Veer contributed to the disturbing atmosphere of the show with strange sounds, including a recurring refrain “Ooh-Loo-Loo”. But the “Ooh-Loo-Loos” were cut for season 3, triggering confusion.
This season, the composer said that White had more “background music … A song that looks more like something you listen to in Ibiza, in a clubby place with a fresh and sexy atmosphere.” In the end, for season 3, the theme song has become more a traditional living room piece (without the “Ooh-Loo-Loos”), which divided fans of the series.
“I sent a text to the producer and told him that it would be great, at one point, to give them the longer version with the Ooh-Loo-Loos, because people will explode if they realize that it was going there anyway,” Tapia de Veer in Times. “He thought it was a good idea. But then Mike cut that – he was not happy with that.”
“I mean, at that time, we already had our last fight forever, I think. So he just said no to anything,” he continued. Variety contacted HBO to comment.
“I announced to the team a few months ago that I was not coming back, that I was leaving,” said Tapia de Veer about the release of the show. “I didn’t tell Mike for various reasons; I wanted to tell him just at the end for the shock and whatever. Except that I said to the whole editorial team and the editor -in -chief and producer of music and all that, but I did not think they were going to tell him. At one point, he heard about it. “
Tapia de Veer said that he had received so many complaints concerning the score of this season that he had published his non -cut version of the song on YouTube. He also compared his work experience on the program to a “Rock group story ‘N’ Roll”.
“I was like, ok, it’s like a rock group in which I went before where the guitarist does not understand the singer at all,” he said.
He also joked by saying that his working relationship with White made him think of the 1978 cult French film entitled “La Cage aux Folles” with Michel Serrault and Ugo Tognazz.
“You know how there is Albin, who is like the star, and there is Renato, who is the producer who always takes care that Albin does not lose his head about something, because Albin is the diva and Renato is the guy who tries to operate everything,” said Tapia de Veer. “For me, the show looked a lot like that.”
The final of season 3 of “The White Lotus” should be broadcast this Sunday and will extend over almost 90 minutes, according to the HBO calendar. The actors of season 3 include Parker Posey, Walton Goggins, Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan, Leslie Bibb, Natasha Rothwell, Carrie Coon, Scott Glenn, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Aimee Lou Wood, Sarah Catherine Hook, Sam Nivola and Blackpink member Lisa.
