For “CXO AI Playbook”, Business Insider takes a look at mini cases on the adoption of AI in industries, business size and technological DNA. We have asked each of the features to tell us about the problems they are trying to solve with AI, which makes these decisions internally and their vision of the use of AI in the future.
Founded in 2013, Betterup is a virtual coach company whose headquarters are in Austin. Company products and services include individual coaching, group sessions and IA -powered tools to stimulate personal and professional growth. It has around 500 employees worldwide.
Analysis of the situation: what problem was the company trying to solve?
Many organizations are struggling to make professional development high quality widely accessible to employees.
Traditional coaching models tend to be expensive and are often reserved for senior executives or a small group of workers. This leaves many employees without a structured means of developing new skills or taking up career challenges. At the same time, the boom in hybrid and remote work means that people need virtual professional development to adapt to their daily routines.
Jordan Hochenbaum, vice-president of Betterup’s artificial intelligence, said that the company had seen the opportunity to solve the two problems with AI. In this spirit, he launched Betterup Grow, an AI coach who can offer real -time support to employees. “One of the advantages of AI coaching is that it is always available and can be integrated directly into the workflow,” he said.
“Sometimes coaching involves planning and preparing for a difficult conversation,” he added. “But other times, situations occur and people need real -time support.”

Staff and key partners
The Betterup Grow initiative was a collaboration between several teams, bringing together IA engineers, behavioral scientists, product designers, marketing specialists and executive leadership.
The company’s research and products teams have analyzed the data from millions of past coaching sessions of Betterup to refine their AI models. And human career coaches helped guide the process, ensuring that AI recommendations reflected best behavioral science practices.
IA in action
After six months of testing, Betterup launched Betterup Grow, mixing automatic learning, behavioral sciences and human coaching to provide real -time support to employees. Unilever was among the first to test the product before its official release.
The platform uses a set of owner data to provide personalized advice and recommendations. “It’s much more than just Wrapper Chatgpt,” said Hochenbaum. “Consider it as a personalized AI agent for each person, taking into account everything we know about you – your role, your mandate, your learning style, as well as the values and priorities of your business – and combine it to give you advice that adapts.”
The AI system is continuously learning of employee interactions, adjusting its recommendations according to preferences, past behavior and the context of the situation. Hochenbaum said employees could use AI coaching to play difficult role roles, think about solutions and stay on the right track with their goals.
On the organizational side, the system helps to collect what Hochenbaum calls “the intelligence of talents”. Thanks to aggregated and anonymized data, Betterup creates a dashboard where organizations can adapt their development programs according to their culture and work objectives.
“This gives them an overview of the specific problems that different groups face,” he said, adding that technology can show how a variety of positions are faced with different types of challenges. For example, new managers may encounter a low commitment from employees or decision -making fatigue, while human resources professionals may be confronted with limited resources.
“There are a lot of powerful perspectives here that can help companies shape their talented strategies and deepen their understanding of their people,” said Hochenbaum.

Did it work and how did the leaders know?
Since its introduction in January, 11 companies have used the IA coaching product of Betterup, with 50 other companies that plan to use the product soon.
Hochenbaum said the first results showed strong adoption and positive results. In the Betterup survey of employees of companies who used the AI coach, 16% of respondents declared increased confidence in work, while 95% expressed their satisfaction with the experience.
A key characteristic of Betterup Betterup Grow is its ability to use human coaches if necessary. In the Betterup survey, 34% of employees said they preferred human coaches, 15% favored AI, and 51% said they were open to a mixture.
The system adapts by transitioning employees to human coaching when it is necessary to support more in -depth.
What is the next step?
Hochenbaum said that Betterup extended the specialized product capabilities, including tools to make decision -making in simulated scenarios.
The AI agent also wins the possibility of navigating in an increasing number of applications. “Think of intelligent support that appears proactively exactly if necessary in the teams, Slack and several other platforms,” he said.
The company also plans to extend the linguistic capacities of the AI program in the coming months to Spanish, simplified Chinese and Portuguese.
Hochenbaum said the tool would also be offered later this year in Russian, French, German and Japanese.
