Washington (AP) – The Central Intelligence Agency will dismiss an unprecedented number of subordinate officers while President Donald Trump’s efforts to reduce and reshape the federal government have repercussions through the American intelligence community.
The agency will examine the staff hired in the past two years, said a spokesman for the agency on Thursday, and officers with behavioral problems or who are considered a bad adjustment for intelligence work will be dismissed. The spokesman said everyone could not be able to manage work pressure.
The cuts are part of the scanning of personnel discounts in the federal government agencies carried out by Trump and the billionaire Elon Musk. Some agencies, such as the American agency for international development, have been largely dismantled. Although the intelligence agencies were spared the deepest cuts, they were not immune.
In February, the CIA offered acquisitions to certain employees. The typically secret agency has not said how many employees have accepted the offer.
Trump’s recently confirmed CIA director John Ratcliffe promised to revise the agency and focus on the intelligences making humans.
The CIA and other Western espionage agencies have played a key role in the provision of information to Ukraine in terms and capacities of the Russian war. Ratcliffe said this week that the sharing of information with Ukraine had been suspended, because because the interruption of potentially temporary.
