The Ducks announced today that Greg Cronin would not come back as head coach.
“I want to personally thank Greg for his tireless work and his dedication to the team,” said Managing Director Pat Verbeek. “He is responsible in many ways for the improvement we have seen by our young nucleus. However, after several weeks of meticulous evaluation, I concluded that we needed a change of direction and a new voice. It was an extremely difficult decision to make for me, but I thought it was necessary to continue our progress towards becoming a candidate for the Stanley Cup that I know we can be. ”
Cronin spent two seasons as an Anaheim chief coach, displaying a record of 62-87-15 with the Ducks after being appointed in his post on June 4, 2023.
The native of Arlington, in the Mass. Joined Anaheim after spending five seasons as a chief coach of the Colorado of the American Hockey League (AHL) of 2018-23. As a chief coach in the AHL with Colorado and Bridgeport (2003-05), Cronin led his teams to a record of 242-165-51 in 458 games (0.584%).
Cronin spent four seasons with the New York Islanders as an assistant coach (2014-17) and one as an associated coach in 2017-18. He was also assistant coach at the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2011-14. He was the head coach of Tigers Sound Bridgeport from 2002 to 2005 and served five seasons as deputy coach of Bridgeport from 1998 to 2003.
Cronin spent six seasons as a chief coach of the Northeastern University from 2005 to 11 and was assistant coach at the University of Maine from 1988 to 1990 and 1993 to 1995, while he was acting coach from December 1995 to December 1996. He was also assistant coach in Colorado College (1990-1993).
