The Chicago Bears have contacted at least 12 general managers and nine coaching candidates for interviews. As they move through the process, we review each of the leads.

Experience

Ireland joined the Saints in 2015, effectively replacing Ryan Pace after leaving New Orleans to become general manager of the Bears.

Ireland previously held the GM position, holding the title with the Miami Dolphins from 2008-13. They inherited a 1-15 squad that made an immediate and remarkable turnaround with an 11-5 record. and the AFC East title.

Eight players Ireland acquired won 14 Pro Bowl caps during his tenure. Between arriving in Miami and landing in New Orleans, he was a consultant for the Seattle Seahawks. He spent seven years (2001-07) with the Dallas Cowboys, starting as a National Scout and becoming Vice President of College and Professional Scouting.

Ireland was a regional scout with the Kansas City Chiefs for four years, and from 1994 to 1996 he was a regional scout for the National Football Scouting Combine.

Ireland kicked at Baylor from 1988-91 and coached special teams at North Texas from 1992-93. Ireland secured two general manager talks last year, meeting the Carolina Panthers and the Carolina Panthers. Detroit Lions.

Ireland have been instrumental in some formidable New Orleans drafts, including the 2017 class which helped propel the Saints to four straight seasons of 11 or more after three straight 7-9 wins.

Cornerback Marshon Lattimore and running back Alvin Kamara took home rookie of the year honors, the first duo from the same team to achieve the feat since 1967. The class also included right tackle Ryan Ramczyk, the Pass thrower Trey Hendrickson, safety Marcus Williams and inside linebacker Alex Anzalone. Ireland was a ball picker for the Bears in the 1980s. His grandfather Jim Parmer was a legendary scout for the Bears, working for the team from 1973 to 1992. Parmer is recognized as the driving force behind the draft many great players, including defensive lineman Dan Hampton and linebacker Mike Singletary.
