The Magnus vs The World Match has already broken the record for the biggest online chess match of all time. However, this is not the first time that a great chess has played against the whole world. Earlier, former champions Garry Kasparov and Viswanathan Anand also participated in similar matches.
The Kasparov against the world match on the MSN game area in 1999 saw the legend of Russian failures face 50,000 players. Indian failures Great Anand, which won the world title five times, faced 70,000 players on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Kasparov match. The two GMS won their respective matches.
However, a few things are different on the Magnus vs the World Match. While Kasparov and Anand participated in traditional classic matches, Carlsen plays the world in a Freestyle chess match (Chess960). In freestyle failures, the rear positions of the parts on a chess board are randomized.
In addition, do not expect a quick result in the match because it is a chess match that will require a vote. Thus, while Carlsen plays with white pieces, the Chess.com community will be together playing in black. Each move will be decided by voting. Each team will have 24 hours to take a step.
The Magnus vs The World Match officially started Thursday with Carlsen Playing 1.e4.
The world team also receives the training of some of the best chess players, including WGM Dina Belenkaya, NM Dane Mattson, IM David Martinez, IM David Pruess and GM Benjamin Bok.
“It’s amazing to see 100,000 chess players having the opportunity to compete with the greatest chess player of all time – debate movements and ideas, strategy and trying to guess what Magnus will then play,” said Sam Copeland, community manager of Chess.com.
“We are also delighted to see this battle take place in the Freestyle failures, a format that allows the greatest freedom and creativity for the players and a format for which Magnus has long pleaded. It’s a great moment and a milestone for the world of chess, and we look forward to a fun and exciting game. ”
