India and Pakistan have accepted a cease-fire mediated by the United States with an immediate effect, although its longevity was called into question after the cross-border bombing reports and cashmere explosions administered by the Indians a few hours after its announcement.

The ceasefire-which hoped to end the climbing days of clashes between the two nuclear weapons countries – was declared for the first time by American president, Donald Trump on Saturday afternoon, after 48 hours of diplomacy between India and Pakistan, apparently negotiated by US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, and Vice-President JD Vance.

Trump, in an article on his social platform Truth, said: “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am happy to announce that India and Pakistan have accepted a complete and immediate cease-fire. Congratulations to the two countries for having used common sense and a great intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this case!”

The ceasefire was later confirmed in a position on X by the Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ishaq Dar, who said that the ceasefire came “with immediate effect”.

The Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vikram Misri, said that the military operations of the two countries spoke on Saturday afternoon.

“It was agreed with each other that the two parties would stop all the shots and military action on earth, and in the air and at sea. Instructions have been given on both sides to give this understanding.” High military officials would speak again on May 12, added Misri.

However, the agreement was questioned after the cross -border bombardment restarted between the Indian and Pakistani armies on Saturday evening. Srinagar, the main city of cashmere administered by the Indians, was also shaken by strong explosions of projectiles that climbed through the border.

On Saturday evening, Misri said that the Armed Forces of India received instructions to “strongly treat” the violations.

A source from the Indian government told AFP that Pakistan had violated the ceasefire. A Senior Pakistani security source said that it was India that started violations of the ceasefire.

Rubio said the cease-fire agreement had occurred after many negotiations from him and Vance with the Indian and Pakistani Prime Ministers, Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, and other senior officials.

“I am happy to announce that the governments of India and Pakistan have agreed with an immediate cease-fire and starting talks on a wide range of questions on a neutral site,” said Rubio on X.

“We congratulate the Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif on their wisdom, their prudence and their state activity in the choice of the path of peace,” he added.

The news of the ceasefire was welcomed by celebrations through India and Pakistan, in particular the cashmere, the contested region divided between the two countries which had been at the forefront of hostilities, with dozens killed in border-known as the control line (LOC)-last week.

In Uri, near the Kashmir border administered by the Indians, one of the most affected cities of recent cross -border violence, Tanveer Chalko, 30, described scenes of jubilation.

“When the news from the ceasefire broke out, families in the camps began to dance with joy,” he said. “It is a big step towards the peace and well-being of the people. As a resident of a border area, I cannot say what this announcement means for us. Now everyone is preparing to go home. “

But Lal Din, 55, a resident of Poonch, a border town in cashmere administered by the Indians, where many were killed and injured in this week’s violence along the loc, said the news of the ceasefire was a bit bitter. His house was destroyed in cross -border bombings and two of his relatives were killed.

“We have already been here-temporary ceasefire negotiated by world powers. But until India and Pakistan seriously govern their disputes, we have to prepare even greater conflicts,” he said.

However, those who gathered in the streets to celebrate were then taken inside while the explosions began to explode on certain parts of the Indian-Kashmir on Saturday evening.

Historically, the United States has played an important role as a mediator between India and Pakistan when hostilities broke out. The proactive role of the Trump administration in the brokerage of peace was, however, a notable reversal of the position of Vance 48 hours earlier, when it declared that the United States would not intervene in the Indian-Pakistani conflict because it was “our business”.

The ceasefire seemed to give the two parties the opportunity to leave by claiming victory. “India has always maintained a firm and uncompromising position against terrorism in all its forms and demonstrations,” said Indian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

In Pakistan, he met an approval choir. “Congratulations to civil and military leaders for emerging from war with dignity, professionalism and unequivocal national resolution,” said Pakistani senator Sherry Rehman.

The ceasefire occurred after India and Pakistan accused each other of cross-border missile strikes against important military targets on Saturday, with great fear that it degenerates into a total war. India and Pakistan fought four wars, more recently in 1999.

This week’s fights were ignited on Wednesday after the Indian missiles hit nine sites in Pakistan, killing 31 people. India said these strikes were in response to a cashmere attack administered by the Indians at the end of last month, in which activists killed 25 Hindu tourists and a guide, which he accused the extremists on Pakistani back.

The situation has greeted more after India accused Pakistan of two consecutive nights of drone attacks. India claimed to have intercepted more than 400 drones targeting cities, military bases and places of worship in the north of the country on Thursday. In retaliation, India said it launched four drone strikes in Pakistan, directly targeting military defense infrastructure.

On Saturday morning, India accused Pakistan of having launched strikes on dozens of bases and military generals across northern India, using long -range weapons, drones and fighter planes. The accusations occurred a few hours after Pakistan said that India had pulled six missiles on the air surface targeting three of the most important military bases in Pakistan early Saturday morning. The two first accused the others of dismissing cross -border missiles.
