The six -time defensive line player Calais Campbell finalized a one -year contract to return to the Cardinals of Arizona for his 18th NFL season, the team announced on Wednesday.
The one -year agreement is $ 5.5 million and has a maximum value of $ 7.5 million, sources at Adam Schefter in ESPN said.
Campbell, 38, was the choice of second round of the team in 2008 and played with the cardinals until 2016. He will add depth to a defensive front which has gone through this off -season with the addition of Tackle Dalvin Tomlinson and Edge Rusher Josh Sweat.
It should not start, but will have some packages designed to put it on the ground. He will also add a veteran presence to not only a defensive line room, but a cloakroom looking to take the next step and make an eliminatory effort this season to come.
Campbell signed with the Miami Dolphins at the end of the 2024 off -season, joining the team just before the training camp. He immediately had an impact as a leader on a team that many thought he had had aspirations of the Super Bowl.
While the dolphins disappointed on the field for much of the 2024 season, Campbell shone and recorded his highest cutting -edge victories since 2019. He finished third in the team with five bags and second in the team with 12 plated for a defeat. He directed all defensive line players with a 46%stopping victory rate.
However, the winning season for the year’s prize for the former Payton NFL Walton NFL, however, experienced a surprising start on the field. Before the opening of the dolphin season against Jacksonville jaguars, Campbell was handcuffed by a Miami-Dade police officer just outside the Hard Rock stadium, while trying to defuse a continuous situation with the police and his teammate Tyreek Hill. Campbell was finally released and was not cited.
He played in the match of that day against the Jaguars, recording a tackle for a defeat on the first game of the melee.
Campbell was not engaged in the subject of his career plans when asked after the final of the regular season in 2024, saying that he had to rest and discuss the question with his family. He added that his performance last season probably would have an impact on his decision in the future.
Selected for six pro Bowls and a NOD ALL-PRO from the first team (2017), Campbell has 110.5 bags in 17 seasons. In addition to cardinals and dolphins, Campbell played for the Baltimore Ravens and the Falcons of Atlanta in his career.
