The canned tuna sold at Trader Joe’s, Costco, Heb recalled for the risk of botulism

Several brands of tuna preserved sold in stores such as Trader Joe, Costco and Heb have been recalled because they could be contaminated by a type of bacteria which causes botulism, a potentially fatal form of food intoxication.

The sea fruits Trion of El Segundo, California, recalled last week certain prizes of tuna sold under the brands Genova, Van Camp, Heb and Trader Joe, according to the US Food and Drug Administration.

The company said that lids on “easy open” cans can have a manufacturing defect which could cause the leakage of products or contaminate by bacteria that cause botulism.

The affected products have retail codes listed in the reminder notice and the dates of the best in 2027 and 2028. The tuna was also sold at Harris Teeter, Publix, Kroger, Safeway, Walmart and certain independent stores in several states .

No disease has been reported to date, the company said. Consumers should not consume the tuna recalled even if it does not seem or feels spoiled. Return the tuna reminded to the store for a full refund, throw it or contact tri-union Seafoods.

Botulism is a rare but serious disease that occurs when a toxin caused by bacteria attacks the nerves of the body. This can cause difficulty breathing, paralyzing and death.
