The block is of the hill of the Parliament in the Canadian capital of Ottawa was placed on a locking while the police arrived on the scene to cope with a barricaded man in the building.
“The police are on the scene in the Hill Parliament for a barricaded man in the East Block region,” said Ottawa police at X at 4:50 p.m. and “there is a great police presence in the region. East Block has been evacuated. There are no known injuries and the police continue to face an individual in this current incident that started before 15 am”
The parliamentary protection service published an emergency alert on Saturday, urging people to “look for a shelter in the nearest room, to close and lock all the doors and to hide”, according to the National post.
Those who are not in the region have been invited to “stay away until further notice”.
“Do not move to locations under rental,” added the alert. “Wait for other instructions from the first stakeholders.”
Mercedes Stephenson by Global News wrote on X: “The source of application of the law indicates that the situation is contained and that the extent of the lock is due to the fact that each situation must be treated as a worst potential scenario to keep things safe.”
The offices of senators and their staff are located in the eastern block. Due to the next federal elections in Canada, Parliament is currently dissolved and there is little activity in the region.
At least a dozen vehicles in the Ottawa Police and Police have surrounded the East block, and access to the area has been closed, including to pass the holders, the Job reported.
The newspaper also noted that a team of bombs could be part of the law application operation. Police closed part of Wellington Street in front of Parliament.
