The California postal service supervisor pleads guilty at $ 300,000 in mail flight

A former postal service supervisor in the United States of Compton has admitted to be a serial mail thief, bringing more than $ 300,000 of checks, gold and currency to collect during work, the authorities said.

Joivian Tjuana Hayes, 36, of Compton, pleaded guilty on Friday to a head of theft of mail by an employee of the postal service and an illegal transfer chief, possession and use of the means of identification, according to the office of the American prosecutor.

From the beginning of last year until his arrest in December, Hayes – who was supervisor at the Costa Mesa post office – stole checks with mail and filed them fraudulently on his own bank account by forging the names of the names of beneficiaries, according to its advocacy agreement. One of these checks was more than $ 114,000, the authorities said.

The video of the surveillance camera shows Hayes depositing stolen checks in automatic ticket distributors in Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley and Compton, prosecutors said. She deposited a few checks in automatic ticket distributors while wearing a blue shirt with a USPS logo, prosecutors said.

In total, she deposited 20 checks worth $ 284,000, as well as $ 3,000 in postal mandates that she also slipped from mail, prosecutors said.

When looking for his home last month, federal agents found a mine of gold coins and collecting currencies.

This included a $ 1 note from 1917 with a sticky ticket listing an estimated value of $ 675, a $ 100 post dating from 1914, estimated at $ 1,500 and a Confederate invoice for Confederate States of $ 10. They also discovered a $ 5 gold coin with a note losing a value of $ 1,600, prosecutors said.

The total value of stolen goods is estimated between $ 304,000 and $ 324,288.

Hayes is planned for a sentence determination hearing on May 23. She risks up to 20 years in federal prison, prosecutors said.

This case was the subject of an investigation by the United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General.
