A Bulgarian high -flying football club landed in a deeply embarrassing situation after having held a minute for a former player, to discover that he is still alive. FC Arda Kardzhali, the club which is currently fifth in the first ranking of the Professional Football League, has since apologized on the incident.
Arda had cried Petko Ganchev before Sunday’s League match against Levski Sofia. The two teams aligned themselves near the central circle, tilting the head in honor of Ganchev before kick -off.
The club, however, published a message on Facebook saying that they had been poorly informed before the referee’s final whistle.
“The management of the PFC Arda would like to express enormous excuses to the former Arda Petko Petko Gannév player and to his relatives after the club received bad information on his death,” the club wrote on the social networking platform.
“We wish Petko Ganchev many years of good health and to enjoy the success of Arda.”
The match between Arena Arda’s two teams in the city of Kardzhali ended with a 1-1 draw.

Ganchev, meanwhile, said that he “poured his brandy” after hearing his own death to the news, and added that he had spent Sunday evening reassuring family members and his friends whom he will always live and well.
“When I heard the terrible news, I poured a little brandy,” said the former 78 -year -old striker in Blitz.
“I was 10 minutes late (for the start) because I had personal work. Going home, my phone started ringing.
“I parked in front of our house, I entered the courtyard and my wife greets me crying, shouting: ‘Petko, Petko, they announced on television that you are dead!
“I couldn’t understand what she was telling me and what had happened. Then two of my friends called me. Being buried alive is very stressful, really,” he added.
Ganchev, who had a five -year visit with the club, added that Arda sports director Ivaylo Petkov, personally called him to apologize for the incident.
