Two brothers from the county of Ventura were arrested in a drug trafficking program which, according to officials, targeted young locals, landing at least one minor at the hospital after taking psychedelic mushrooms.
The hospital minor told the detectives that they had bought magic mushrooms through the brothers, who had led a drug delivery service using social media and other messaging platforms, according to DET. Jonathan Schnereger.
Enrique and Erick Benitez, 18 and 26, were arrested this week for a multitude of drug -related charges after detectives have linked them to the sale of hospitalized minors and other drugs to school -age children across the county, Schnereger said in a press release. The brothers are accused of having sold psilocybin – an illegal psychedelic found in certain mushrooms – marijuana and vapes with marijuana and nicotine.
Tuesday, detectives executed a search warrant in a residence affiliated with the brothers, finding approximately 20 grams of psilocybin, 88 marijuana vaping aircraft, 10 nicotine vape devices and what Schnereger called “a large volume of coward marijuana”. The detectives also found more than $ 2,000 in cash and a handgunned handgun, known as “ghost pistol”.
Enrique and Erick Benitez were arrested for suspicion of having sold a substance controlled to a minor, possession of a controlled substance with a firearm and endangering children. Their sureties were set at $ 250,000.
