British tennis star Fran Jones broke his silence after collapsing on the field and needing a wheelchair to take him on Tuesday evening.
British number five faced Julia Riera de Argentina in the first round of the Colasanitas Cup in Bogota, Colombia, when she went to 5-3 in the third set.
She failed to finish her service movement before collapsing on the ground as she hugged, needing immediate treatment before being taken.
Jones was born without two fingers and three toes due to the rare medical state dysplasia syndrome, and was invited to forget to play tennis professionally by doctors.
But Jones forged a career for herself and reached the first round in Wimbledon the year, the second time she had done so. Last week, she won the Merida Open in Mexico, a WTA 500 tournament.
Writing on Instagram on Wednesday, she said: “ After winning the event in Brazil on Sunday, our total trip took more than 24 hours, with a minimum rest and restoration of a long week.

The 24 -year -old must have been swept away by wheelchairs and did tests on her heart
“Bogota is renowned for its altitude and often takes a few days to adapt. Unfortunately, when we arrived on Monday afternoon, we could not practice due to the rain and this meant that outside of my warming of low level pre-match, my first exposure to limited oxygen levels to high intensity was my match.
“During the match, I worked hard to give myself the opportunity to stay competitive while trying to get used to the conditions but I gradually fought; A fuzzy vision ultimately leading to collapse, without more cramps that have not taken place.
“At night, we have conducted several studies and it seems that my heart worked a little too hard during the day, but fortunately, there is no more impact.
“Bogota is one of my favorite events of the year and I hope to reconnect in 2026 in different circumstances.
“After a few days of rest, I will continue to rely on the improvements to date this season. Thank you for the messages and the concern.
Jones played in the Colombian capital of Bogota, which is about 2,640 meters above sea level. The significant altitude has caused problems for athletes in the past, although we do not currently know if it was behind Jones’ difficulties.
A statement was published shortly after by the organizers of the tournament who read: “ Due to a physical problem, Francesca Jones withdrew from her match against Julia Riera at 6-2 5-7 5-3 in favor of Argentina.
“We want British tennis player with rapid recovery.”

That said, she has not yet studied the French Open or the Open in France or in the United States.
Speaking in 2021 on how the treatment of his health shaped her, Jones insisted that this had only made her mentally stronger.
“I had experiences that many have not at my age, and I think it shaped me in the person I am today,” she said.
“It will have had an impact on my mental strength and my mentality and my state of mind as a whole, but I am sure that everyone goes through difficulties and deals with adversity in their own way. Everyone’s story makes a person.
Explaining how a specialist who had told her that she would never play professionally had pushed him, Jones added: “His comments played a massive role in my life decisions and my career commitments to date.
“I always wanted to make my parents proud more than anything.
