In 2022, the British government opened a public inquiry into the activities of the British special forces in Afghanistan between 2010 and 2013. An anonymous account given during the investigation said that the special forces had received “a gold leaving allowing them to get away with murder”.

If the former Afghan soldiers had been admitted to the United Kingdom, they could be called as witnesses of the investigation, but cannot be forced to do so if they are not in the country.
A spokesman for the Defense Ministry said that “anyone can provide evidence to the investigation, no matter where he is worldwide. If potential evidence is – or have been – discovered by the BBC Panorama, we urge them to get in touch with the investigation team and the police.”

The BBC also indicated that in 2011, Jenkins had not referred to proofs of “extrajudicial murders” by the British special forces to the military police.
Jenkins since August 2024 was a strategic advisor to the British Minister of Defense John Healey, who appointed Jenkins at the head of the navy. Healey, who met his German counterpart in Berlin on Thursday, described Jenkins as a “experienced leader with a distinguished career in the army and at the heart of the government”.
