The boxing body targets the IOC with criminal complaints quoting Trump’s order on transgender athletes

By Graham Dunbar

Geneva (AP) – The International Boxing Association said on Monday that it would file criminal complaints against the International Olympic Committee in the United States, France and Switzerland. The CIO based in Switzerland authorizing the boxers Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-Ting compete and win gold medals in Paris last year “could serve as a reason for criminal prosecution,” IBA said in a statement.

An executive decree on transgender athletes by American president Donald Trump was cited on Monday by the boxing body led by Russia, which was banished from the Olympic Games, to justify the filing of criminal complaints.

“According to Swiss law, any action or inaction which presents a security risk for participants in the competition justifies an investigation and can serve as a reason for criminal proceedings,” said IBA, adding that “similar complaints must be filed with prosecutors of France and the United States.

IBA, which was funded by the Russian State Energy Company, Gazprom, has also promised free legal advice to women boxers to pursue business against CIO Thomas Bach and other senior officials Olympics.

“The order of President Trump from banning transgender athletes of female sport validates the efforts of IBA to protect the integrity of female sports,” said the president of the boxing organization Umar Kremlev.

Legal threats intensify a quarrel of several years between the now exiled IBA and the IOC – and Kremlev against Bach – which has taken control of boxing tournaments in the last two summer games, in Tokyo and Paris.

The IOC has always declared that the boxers of Algeria and Taiwan, who were assigned a woman at birth and to identify themselves as women, have respected all the rules for the Olympic tournament. The two also participated in Tokyo in 2021 and did not win medals.

Khelif and Lin had been disqualified by the 2023 world championships managed by IBA who said they failed the eligibility tests.

Trump has often silenced boxers as men and last Wednesday at the White House spoke without proof of “two women or two people who transferred and the two won gold medals”.

Trump signed the decree, entitled “preventing men from female sports”, which aims to ban transgender athletes from participating in the sports of girls and women.

The following summer matches came to Los Angeles in July 2028 during Trump’s presidential term, and he urged the IOC last week to change everything “to have to do with this absolutely ridiculous subject”.

High -level Olympic sports, swimming and cycling already exclude athletes who have gone through male puberty to participate in female events.

The IOC was approached to comment.
