The American representative Katherine Clark, D-5th District, of Revere, the democrat of the second row, called the War of Israel in Gaza a “genocide” during an event she held in Cambridge on Thursday.
Clark’s comment made her the best Democrat in Congress to use this word to describe the situation in Gaza, according to Axios.
“We must each continue to have an open heart on how we do this, how we do it effectively, and how we act in time to make a difference, whether to stop famine and genocide and the destruction of Gaza, or that it means that we work together to stop the redistribution published on a video on a video independent on a video on the editor, Web.
Clark remarked when he faced pro-Palestinian demonstrations during the event organized by friends of the Quaker group in Cambridge. Joy Lee, spokesperson for his office, told Boston Globe that Clark’s position on war had not changed.
“The Israelis and the Palestinians deserve security and peace. It can only be made by a permanent ceasefire, the immediate return of the remaining hostages and a wave of humanitarian aid in Gaza,” Lee in the globe told. “It should not be controversial to say that Israeli children did not deserve to be kidnapped and murdered by Hamas, and it should not be controversial to say that Palestinian children, who have no responsibility for the atrocities of Hamas, do not deserve to be killed by war or famine.”
Clark has become the most high -end democrat to use the term “genocide” to describe the current crisis in Gaza. She joined other legislators who have made the same remarks, in particular, the American representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (DN.Y.), Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA.) And Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.).
The commentary comes after the number of deaths in the war, which began after the terrorist attack on October 7, 2023 against Israel, exceeded 60,000 people, Health officials in Gaza reported.
The United Nations define “genocide” as “acts initiated with the intention of destroying, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group.”
These acts include:
- Kill members of the group
- Cause seriousness or mental damage to members of the group
- Deliberately inflicting the living conditions of the group calculated to cause its physical destruction as a whole or in part
- Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group
- Force the group’s children to another group
Clark’s office could not be joined immediately to comment on Saturday.
