Don’t get me wrong, I like John Cena as much as the next guy, but I didn’t think he had him in him.
James Gunn spoke Peacemaker season 2 as if it was a greater key for the DCU than even Superman was, and fortunately for him, he seems to have made another blow. His highest score of all time. As it stands, Peacemaker Season 2 has a 100% 100% certified on Rotten Tomatoes of three dozen criticisms. Season 1 was also highly evaluated with a 92%, but this is the following level.
There are no MCU or DCEU films or emissions with 100% perfect scores, so it is currently a record in this department, at least for this second season. This is the third DCU “Canon” project which is broadcast after Creature commandos first went (95%score) then the huge Superman Film (83%score). This recalls James Gunn’s own filmography, in which he did not carry out a poorly revised superhero project through Marvel or DC to date.
Peacemaker Season 2 will be… complicated. Here, Gunn tries to use the show as a bridge to keep the aspects of his corner of the DCEU in the DCU, namely the peacemaker Hiumself and all this casting, more perhaps some elements of his Suicide team Film in which Peacemaker made his debut.
The idea here seems to be a kind of development of universes where we know that Peacemaker meets an alternative version of himself. Gunn said many times in interviews that Peacemaker will be the key to the creation of Canon and he even said that he had not shown the last episodes to almost everyone given how great they were going to be. Again, this is the second season of a show based on a lateral character in a film which was a big flop at the box office and which is now part of a dead universe. I am not saying that to be insulting, I say that because it makes it all even more impressive.
Peacemaker Forging Canon has raised other subjects, as Gunn said he hoped to recover the Bloodsport of Idris Elba in the DCU. He also did not exclude that Margot Robbie returns as Harley Quinn despite already three complete DCEU films, including his family, but we have to wait and see this one, and it may be a longhot. In addition, the more you go there, you ask yourself strange questions like good, if Harley is canon of Robbie, the canon of the Joked Leto joker? Is Ben Affleck Batman Canon? The answer is almost certainly no, but where do you draw the line? It is Gunn’s work, but it is very clear that he does not want to leave all his older DC friends, and Cena in particular will be with him until the end. Gunn even played Coy on a possible solo peaceful film.
For the moment, season 2 of Peacemaker Released on August 21, 2025 on HBO Max, and will be broadcast every week after that.
